PLEASE REGISTER BY MARCH 12 to receive a workshop kit
This workshop will take place on Zoom on Saturday, March 28 at 11 am Pacific.
Beginner Brooming Pt. 3 invites you to continue your broom-making journey — or begin it — with a stitched whisk designed to teach both technique and tradition. In this workshop, we’ll create a functional whisk with a woven broomcorn stalk grip and learn how to stitch the whisk flat using a wooden clamp.
As we broom together, we’ll talk through broom-lore, history, and symbolism, offering context for why these tools have endured across cultures and generations. The class builds on tension winding and weaving skills from earlier beginner workshops, but is paced gently enough for those brand new to broom-making.
You’ll finish with a well-balanced, sturdy whisk and a richer understanding of the craft’s roots, along with techniques you can carry into future broom projects.
The kit includes:
- natural broomcorn
- twine of your choosing
- broomcorn stalks for weaving
- a stitching clamp
- a stitching needle
Other items you may need which are not included:
- a sharp knife
- a pair of scissors
- a lighter
- a short dowel to use as a foot brake (explained later)
- a hand clamp (optional, but handy for taking breaks)
*Note: You will be prompted to pick your twine color when you check out.
For international orders, choose the “Local Pickup” option and include your address and phone number in the notes. In order to give you the fairest rates, we will bill you separately for S&H! Please contact us prior to purchasing for any shipping questions.
Cost includes the custom kit, admission to the Zoom class, and a recorded demo.
An email will be automatically sent to you when you order, detailing how to log in and other tips to prepare for class in advance. Make sure to keep an eye on your Spam or Junk folders to make sure you don’t miss the prep email.
You must be signed up to receive email updates in order to receive the prep email. Without the prep email, you won’t have access to the class.
