*Note: The workshop broom will not feature the vine wrapped handle.
Please read all information thoroughly.
This class takes place on Zoom on Saturday, March 28 at 3pm Pacific and will take about three hours.
Please sign up by March 12 to allow time for kit assembly and shipping.
This class is best suited for broom-makers with some experience.
The Rooster Tail is a whisk that rewards patience and curiosity, and this workshop is an invitation to explore one of broom-making’s most decorative techniques. Using natural broomcorn, we’ll craft an ornate whisk defined by a braided hurl—a detailed weaving process that gives the Rooster Tail its signature texture and elegance.
You’ll learn tension winding and a specialized braiding technique that transforms simple materials into a refined, expressive tool. While the Rooster Tail has a long history as a ceremonial and decorative broom, it remains wonderfully practical for everyday use, especially in small or detailed spaces.
This workshop is well suited for makers who enjoy slowing down, working intentionally, and learning techniques that elevate both form and function.
The kit includes:
- natural broomcorn
- colored twine of your choosing
Other items you may need which are not included:
- a sharp knife
- a pair of scissors
- a lighter
- a hand towel for your lap
- a dowel to use as a foot brake (explained later)
- a way to soak your broomcorn (about 10” deep)
- a hand clamp (optional, but helpful for taking breaks)
*You will be prompted to choose your twine color when you checkout.
For international orders, choose the “Local Pickup” option and include your address and phone number in the notes. In order to give you the fairest rates, we will bill you separately for S&H! Please contact us prior to purchasing for any shipping questions.
