Please read all information carefully; there’s important stuff in here!
This workshop will take place on Zoom on Saturday, April 25 at 11 am Pacific, and will take about 4 hours.
Please sign up by April 9 to allow time for kit assembly and shipping.
Please allow 2 hours of prep time for your stalks to soak prior to class.
This workshop invites you into the oldest roots of broom craft through the making of a woven witch’s besom. Long associated with protection, ritual, and the tending of thresholds, the besom carries centuries of tradition in its form.
Together, we’ll create a classic besom using natural or black broomcorn, focusing on the woven cap that binds the broom to its handle. This technique adds strength, beauty, and complexity, making it a wonderful way to continue developing your weaving practice.
You’ll leave with a powerful, functional broom and a deeper connection to the traditions that shaped it.
Your kit will include:
- broomcorn of your choice (natural, black, or half & half)
- a kiln-dried PNW hardwood handle
- broomcorn stalks for weaving
- tarred twine for constructing your bristle
- colored twine of your choice for stitching and weaving
- a stitching needle
Other tools you will need:
- a lighter
- a sharp knife
- sharp scissors
- a lidded container for soaking your stalks
- a hand towel
- a drill (optional)
- a gardening glove for your dominant hand (optional)
- a hand clamp (optional, but handy for taking breaks)
You will be prompted to select your twine & broomcorn color after you click “purchase”
