Nov 14 - Sweeper-in-a-Day
Please read all information carefully; there’s important stuff in here!
This workshop will take place on Zoom on Saturday, November 14 at 11 am Pacific. We’ll plan for 6 hours together with a couple breaks.
Craft a full-size functional sweeper in a single day. Using a dry method, you’ll build the broom’s shoulders by layering broomcorn carefully, then stitch it flat into the classic sweeper shape — no waiting days for the interior to dry. We’ll cap our brooms with a sleek and minimalist no-weave technique
If you are looking to expand your skills, this workshop is a wonderful opportunity to create a practical, beautiful broom while learning a new, efficient technique. Some broom-making experience is recommended.
This class does not include materials. You will need to gather:
- 24 oz broomcorn hurl - I use 18-20 inch
- a handle
- approx. 30ft tarred twine for constructing your bristle - I use 19 gauge nylon
- approx 30 ft colored twine (or the same tarred twine) of your choice for stitching
- a dowel or other footbrake
- a stitching needle and clamp
- a lighter
- a sharp knife
- sharp scissors
- a wide-tooth comb
- a hand towel
Optional but helpful:
- a gardening glove for your dominant hand
- a hand/spring clamp
- a drill
Cost includes admission to the Zoom class and a recording sent afterward.
An email will be automatically sent to you when you order, detailing how to log in and other tips to prepare for class in advance. Make sure to keep an eye on your Spam or Junk folders to make sure you don’t miss the prep email.
You must be signed up to receive email updates in order to receive the prep email. Without the prep email, you won’t have access to the class.
