Please read all information carefully; there’s important stuff in here!
This workshop will take place on Zoom on Saturday, November 21 at 10am Pacific Time.
This workshop is all about curiosity, creativity, and giving yourself permission to play. Designed to highlight a range of weaving techniques, it offers a deeper look at the techniques and structures I use in my woven grips and caps—and invites you to make them your own. This class is a wonderful way to build skill, confidence, and fluency in one focused area of broom-making.
We’ll craft a traditional round whisk and devote our time to questions and practice while exploring different weaving approaches, testing variations, and seeing how small adjustments can create big visual changes.
Please note - this class is designed to help you improve your weaving technique, and although we will go over a few different weaving patterns, learning new patterns will not be our focus.
This class does not include materials. You will need to gather:
- 8-12oz of broomcorn hurl to make one or two round whisks
- broomcorn stalks for weaving - these can be separated from craft broomcorn if loose stalks are not available
- approx. 30ft strong twine - I use 18 gauge nylon
- a dowel or other footbrake
- a lighter
- a sharp knife
- sharp scissors
- a lidded container for soaking your stalks
- a hand towel
Optional but helpful:
- a gardening glove for your dominant hand
- a hand/spring clamp
- a drill
Cost includes admission to the Zoom class, and a recording sent afterward.
An email will be automatically sent to you when you order, detailing how to log in and other tips to prepare for class in advance.
Make sure to keep an eye on your Spam or Junk folders to make sure you don’t miss the prep email.
You must be signed up to receive email updates in order to receive the prep email. Without the prep email, you won’t have access to the class.
